Assistant Professor Takashi Nakamura and colleagues have developed a new cyclic oligosaccharide (cyclodextrin) molecule capable of selectively capturing monophosphate anions in water. Furthermore, he has elucidated the detailed mechanism by which this cyclic molecule interacts in harmony with water molecules to capture the monophosphate anions. This research contributes to the understanding of interactions between water molecules and other substances, providing the way for the development of functional materials designed to operate in aqueous environments.
